In this poignant novel, young Marina is abused by a man in the elevator of her building. This episode stirs up all kinds of emotions in her family, allowing the reader a glimpse into the personality of each family member. Marina’s mother, a well-known and respected journalist who is very dedicated to her work, begins to wonder whether she is really happy and worries about her children and the fact that they must learn to think and fend for themselves.
Held-back rage, comfort, tenderness, shame, responsibility, and courage are some of the conflicting feelings the reader will discover in this engaging novel.
